Sheriff Kanalakis is please to announce that Captain Ray McLaughlin
will be promoted to Custody Operations Bureau Chief Deputy
Effective December 29, 2007.

Captain McLaughlin is a 22-year veteran with the Monterey County Office of the Sheriff. Captain McLaughlin’s Law Enforcement career initially started in 1978 with the Pacific Grove Police Department. He is originally from Baton Rouge Louisiana. While serving in the U.S. Army, he was stationed at Ft. Ord in 1975. Captain McLaughlin has been a resident of Monterey County for 32 years. Captain McLaughlin advanced through the ranks to included supervising the Custody Operations Bureau Training Program and the Transportation Section. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1991, Commander in 2001 and Captain in January 2005. As Commander of the Custody Operations Bureau, Ray McLaughlin served in the Court Services Division and commanded the Bureau’s Custody Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Captain McLaughlin attended Southern University and is a graduate of the Monterey Peninsula College. He also attended the FBI National Academy. Captain McLaughlin has been actively involved in various youth mentoring programs in Salinas and the Monterey Peninsula.

He will take the reins of the Custody Operations Bureau assuming command of over 220 personnel and an annual budget of 36 million dollars.
