Motor Squadron

The Motor Squad was started in 1941 by Larry Ketzel as a coastal watch. After the war the squad was continued to help the sheriff with special events and traffic. I can remember my dad Dale Ralph getting a call from the SO and going out to the garage and changing his white lights to red. They rode their own personal motorcycles. They were many times assigned to escort the Hell Angles while in Monterey County.
Under the current Captain Chuck Bray with the help of Lt. Ron Ralph and Lt. Lou Wolting the squad was updated to its Reserve Level with police motorcycles and equipment. The motor squad also has many regular sheriff deputies filling its twenty-five member list. All of the equipment that people see were purchased by each member. Depending on the motorcycle each member rides they can have between 7 to 15,000 invested.

The duties today are from writing radar citations to parades and perform many other details that the Sheriff wants handled.
