Charles Defreese has gone beyond what is expected of him in his current position. During the past few months the Civil Unit has experienced many changes, due to the loss of personnel. Chuck Defreese volunteered to help with the field services in addition to his office duties. His help prevented the division from requesting help with civil services by Patrol Deputies allowing them to concentrate on keeping our streets safe.

Sgt. Mendoza was nominated for authoring and implementing the Increased Security Level (ISL) policy for inmates at the County Jail. This has resulted in a safer environment for deputies to function and interact with violent and disruptive inmates. Jose also serves on the Sheriff’s Honor Guard representing our department at funerals, memorials, and other special events. Sgt. Mendoza was also honored as the MCSO Deputy of the Year by the Department! Congratulations Jose!

 Sonia was recognized for her outstanding dedication to the Sheriff’s Explorer Post 211. She has given numerous hours of her own time to the post, which was in danger of disbanding because of the absence of a full-time adviser. Since the Explorer’s and her regular job as a Bailiff do not keep her busy enough, she also volunteers at the Monterey County Food Bank! Good work Sonia!
